With the release of the second movie, the hype over FSOG is back in full force. You may or may not have read the books, or seen the movies but are intrigued by the subject matter and perhaps would like to take your own foray into the world of kink. I would like to offer you some alternatives to FSOG. All of the books and authors I will be writing about are ones that I am familiar with, have read and feel will give you a real look into the BDSM lifestyle. For those that indulge, it truly is a lifestyle whether inside the bedroom only or encompassing everyday life. BDSM is more than the kinky sexual acts its practitioners engage in and these authors have captured that in their writing. Check your favorite ebook retailer for these titles and many more fabulous books from these authors.
When asked about what to read after or instead of FSOG, my first response is The Divine Trilogy by author R.E. Hargrave. These books delve into the mindset as well as the sex. Jayden Masterson is the lead male. He is wealthy, settled in his life alone and contracts submissive woman. No strings, no relationships. Then Catherine walks into the club he frequents and begin to challenge everything he thinks he knew. Catherine is not new to the lifestyle. In fact she has a Master once before and is still recovering from that experience. Though she craves letting someone else be in charge, she feels the club will give her the distance she also needs from a Master. A chance to scratch the itch, if you will. These two collide and the result is sheer brilliance. Ms. Hargrave delves into how the relationship grows and the thoughts each has about what they thought they needed. Throughout the trilogy each faces the things that scare them the most and together they triumph over the hurdles and build the relationship each secretly craved.
Deanndra Hall is another author who keeps the steam high while giving you the whole package. Dos, don’ts and all the emotions and trust that go into any relationship are all there. She has several series that include BDSM. My best recommendation to start with is Adventurous Me. This starts off the Me, You and Us series. Club Bliss is centerpoint of the action. Trish’s husband of 30 years has left her for being boring. While drinking away her troubles she is invited by a mysterious handsome gentlemen to Club Bliss. These are stories of imperfect humans reaching out into the world. They make mistakes and work through fixing them. The relationship is the central theme, surrounded by character growth and some of the steamiest scenes I have read. Ms. Hall’s other series start with Love Under Construction that takes you Kentucky. Hot Italian men and the women who are strong enough to love them follow throughout all the books in that series and the spin off Citadel Series.
Author Angel Payne brings you the W.I.L.D Boys series. These guys are Special Forces soldiers who work hard and play harder. They depend on each in the field and at home. They all are Alpha males of the highest order, who are not necessarily looking for Ms.Right but Ms Rightnow. With their lives on the line almost daily, settling down is not in the picture. All of them of course, are in for a big surprise. The steam factor is pretty high in these stories, however, the relationships and what it takes to truly make them work is the focal point in all of them. Start with Saved by his Submissive and work through the series. Though they can be read as a stand alone.
